It’s going to look like it was meant to be. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. “This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. I don’t mean just outtakes,” Fisher said on Good Morning America. These scenes will be reworked to fit within the context of Episode IX's plot.Īccording to Fisher's brother, Todd, the end result will be surprisingly cohesive. Instead, Abrams will be relying on unused archival footage pulled from The Force Awakens. And while there have been many conflicting reports regarding how Fisher's posthumous appearance will be made possible, we now know her likeness won't be digitally recreated (as it was in Rogue One). Obviously, the screenplay had to be rewritten to account for Fisher's passing. Reports have indicated that originally Leia was intended to have a prominent role in Episode IX, akin to Han Solo's role in The Force Awakens and Mark Hamill's in The Last Jedi. How exactly this will be accomplished has been one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the film. The Leia DilemmaĮpisode IX will also feature footage of the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, despite the fact that Fisher passed away in December 2016, well before filming began on Episode IX. ![]() Will we ever learn more about Supreme Leader Snoke and the origins of the First Order? Are Rey's parents truly no one important? And perhaps most important of all, what does it mean that the Force has "awakened" again? Will the Jedi return in full force, or will something new take their place?įor now, about all we can do is speculate based on the tiny details revealed in this lone set photo of Ridley, Boyega and Isaac. That leaves plenty of other burning questions left to answer in this final part of the sequel trilogy. It's also safe to say Episode IX will reveal once and for all whether Kylo Ren can be pulled back to the light. And though Luke Skywalker died as a result of his final confrontation with his nephew in The Last Jedi, expect him to reappear in Force Ghost form, mentoring Rey in her Jedi ascension much as Obi-Wan and Yoda once did for him. We'll likely see Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose and the rest working to rebuild the ranks and rally the galaxy against the First Order. General Leia's Resistance only barely survived the wrath of the First Order, numbering just a few dozen soldiers aboard one battered hunk of junk of a ship. Given how The Last Jedi ended, certain assumptions can be made about the plot. Rumors suggest there will be a larger time gap between Episodes VIII and IX than there was between VII and VIII. Given that we don't even have a title for Episode IX yet, it goes without saying that the plot of the sequel is shrouded in mystery. The film will also add several new cast members in undisclosed roles, including Keri Russell, Dominic Monaghan, Richard E. Look for at least one other familiar face from the Original Trilogy to appear, as Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.
